Celebration of European Maritime Day 2025
52 students + 7 teachers for 2 hours on 400 meters of coastline = 10 bags of trash + 5 bags of recyclables + 2 pallets + + +……
Excellent collaboration between the students of the 1st Gymnasium of Rhodes and the 2nd Experimental Gymnasium of Rhodes, who participated on May 20th, 2025 in the coastal cleanup of Kritika Beach, implementing scientific litter recording protocols aligned with European Directives.
The students collected waste, with plastic bottle caps and plastic fragments being the most dominant items.
Notably, many plastics were found originating from other Mediterranean countries such as Turkey, Egypt, Israel, and even from much farther places like Taiwan, China, and Venezuela!
The plastic bottles collected were placed exactly where they belong — in the blue recycling bins!
The activity took place as part of the celebration of the European Maritime Day 2025.
Congratulations also to the accompanying teachers!
Special thanks to Deputy Mayors Mr. George Toppos and Mr. Karatzias for their support and prompt response.
Thank you all for your participation!
